Dr. Bri Staley Shumaker, PhD, ABPP

I’m a licensed psychologist who is board certified in clinical psychology (ABPP) — a distinction achieved by only about 4% of doctoral-level psychologists in the USA. I’m also a certified executive coach and U.S. Army Veteran who helps high performers reclaim clarity and control.

Many of my clients lead under pressure — executives, pilots, physicians, and military — but when internal systems falter, they don’t always have a safe, effective place to recalibrate. I provide that space: a grounded, strategic, and evidence-based environment where people who carry a lot can finally put something down.

My background includes serving as an active-duty US Army psychologist, clinical training at UCLA and the VA, and years of experience supporting elite performers and older adults through neuropsychological assessment, burnout recovery, and life transitions. This combination of experience allows me to integrate performance psychology, neuroscience, and clinical insight to help clients perform at a high level while maintaining balance and well-being.

My Approach

I believe therapy should be both strategic and human — rooted in science but tailored to real-world demands. My work draws on neuropsychology, trauma-informed methods, and performance psychology to help clients manage stress, strengthen resilience, and rediscover purpose.

Whether you’re navigating leadership pressure, burnout, trauma, aging, or life change, therapy with me is a place to gain perspective, recalibrate, and move forward with clarity and balance.

Why Board Certification Matters

Board certification in clinical psychology, awarded by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), is the highest credential a clinical psychologist can earn in the field. Only a small percentage of psychologists achieve this level of distinction, as it requires advanced training, peer review, and demonstration of expertise through examination and case presentation.

This certification signifies that a psychologist has met rigorous national standards for clinical competence, ethics, and professionalism. For clients, it offers assurance that their psychologist practices at the top of the profession — integrating the most current research and evidence-based approaches into treatment.

As a PhD-level clinical psychologist, I hold the most advanced academic degree in the discipline. While many mental health providers hold master’s degrees in counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy, a doctoral-level psychologist receives in-depth training in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and intervention — often totaling more than 5,000 supervised clinical hours.

This level of education and board certification allows me to approach therapy with both scientific precision and practical insight, tailoring care for individuals with complex presentations, leadership demands, or high-performance expectations.
